Summary:

How do you survive in a world created for giants? Enter into the world of little people no taller than six inches who live under the floors. Arrietty is a curious, independent, and lonely young girl. She lives with her mom, Homily, and her dad, Pod. Arrietty longs adventure, but as a Borrower, she is not allowed. Pod strictly enforces that he is the only one allowed to go upstairs into the ‘Human Beans’ house. If Arrietty leaves her home under the Clock she might destroy their life. If any Borrower is seen by a ‘human bean’ they are never seen again. Although this life is great for adults it’s pretty boring for a child and Arrietty longs for adventure and a friend.

Word of Caution:

Unfortunately in the first book, there is a drunk lady who lives upstairs but she doesn’t come into the story. In the last book, The Borrowers Avenged, there is a ghost-like boy who can only be seen by borrowers, this is a big part of the book.

Positive Notes:

This book is creative. It seems so real with all the little details, like how they use small matchboxes for furniture and old half-nail scissors for a sharp way to cut things. After reading this series you'll find yourself believing in these enchanting little people.

Who:

This book is for all children aged 9-12.

Books:

Enjoy The Borrowers and its sequels, The Borrowers Afield, The Borrowers Afloat, The Borrowers Aloft, and The Borrowers Avenged.
