Summary:
Pollyanna, a young orphan, goes to live with her Aunt Polly. When she arrives, she finds out her aunt is cold-hearted and knows nothing about raising children. But Pollyanna doesn’t mind. She makes many friends and some of whom are not friendly at all, including a grumpy old man, an annoying orphan, and a sick, sour-mannered woman. Pollyanna teaches her new friends about a game her father taught her, which involves finding a reason to be happy in every situation. But that is not all, Pollyanna’s favorite friend, a kind elderly doctor, loath's her caregiver, Aunt Polly, and to make things worse neither does her aunt. When an unfortunate accident changes everything, Pollyanna has to find her happiness once again.
Word of Caution: (Contains spoiler alerts)
There is a hint of romance between Pollyanna's friend, Dr. Chilton, and Aunt Polly. According to the book Dr. Chilton and Aunt Polly used to court each other but had a squabble and broke up. They refused to talk for around ten years until Pollyanna changed everything. Pollyanna unknowingly brings the old couple together.
Positive Notes:
I love the classic story of Pollyanna and her art of happiness. It’s exciting to see how she makes friends with the most unlikely people. It’s a sweet story of how a little girl tries to make a boring, sour, world into a happy, content, wonderland. Enjoy this amazing classic as you learn the art of happiness, or as Pollyanna says gladness.
Who:
This book is great for girls aged 10-12. And even younger if you're interested in reading it aloud or a revised version for younger children.
