You have probably read all of the main series, Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, Little house on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek , By the Shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, Little Town on the Prairie, These happy Golden Years, and The First Four Years. But did you know there’s more?
Old Town in the Green Groves:
Old town in the Green Groves is a book that goes between On the Banks of Plum Creek and By the Shores of Silver Lake written by Cyantha Rylant. Laura had written twelve pages about her life between the banks of plum creek and the shores of silver lake that where never published. According to these pages Laura did not move directly from Plum Creek to the shores of silver lake but in-between lived in a small town in Iowa called Burr Oak.
Mary Ingalls On her Own:
Mary Ingalls On her Own is written by Elizabeth Kimmel Willard about Mary and her time at the Iowa School for the Blind. This book gives you a glimpse into the other side of little house on the prairie. I enjoyed Elizabeth’s imagination as she imagines what it would’ve been like for Mary to leave her sister, Laura, and go to school by herself blind.
Rose Years:
Rose years is the next series about Rose, Laura and Almanzo’s only child. This series outlines Rose’s life as she grows up with her parents Laura and Manly. This series is not written by Laura but by another author who based it off of Laura’s Journal. Roger Lea McBride did a good job in continuing the story of this loved family. Little House on Rocky Ridge, Little Farm in the Ozarks, In the Land of the Big Red Apple, On the Other side of the Hill, Little Town in the Ozarks, New Dawn on Rocky Ridge, On the Banks of Bayou, and Bachelor Girl.
Enjoy these sequels as you learn more about this famous pioneer family.
