When I discovered this series I only read a couple of books before I began to struggle with them. I was determined not to finish in the middle of the series and keep reading but I eventually had to quit. A Series of Unfortunate Events is about three orphans who lost their parents in a fire. The parents' death left the three children with a very large fortune that was inaccessible until the oldest child turned 18. Unfortunately, the children soon discovered that their closest relative is evil and desperately trying to get at the children's large fortune. This is where this series gets questionable. All through the series, the Uncle tries very hard to get the kids fortune. In the first book, the Uncle tried to marry the oldest girl, who was only 12, in order to access the money. The rest of the series just repeats this cruelty, in almost every book someone gets murdered. This series just frustrated me. The evil Uncle always got away, so many innocent people died, nobody listened to the kids, and none of the books had a happy ending. I eventually decided to read the last page of the last book to see if it had a happy ending. (Something I never do.) It didn't, so I left it. My sister and brother also tried to get through this series but they also ended up quitting halfway. As it highlights in the title this is A Series of Unfortunate Events so unless your someone who enjoys sad and depressing endings, this series just isn't worth reading.
